The Pioneer

From the Editor-in-Chief

Welcome to The Pioneer!

Hello and welcome to The Pioneer. If you’re new here, welcome! If not, it’s great to see you!

I am Juana Sanchez Castillo, the Editor-in-Chief of The Pioneer this academic year. Last year, I was the Lead Reporter/Writer for The Pioneer. Now, I am ready to take on this position.

My team and I are excited to publish a variety of articles: from informative pieces, highlights of our local community, feature stories of alumni and students and more! By doing this, we hope to promote better communication and transparency between PSC and the local community, present you with information you might have not known before, and better our community as a whole. In addition, some of the articles we publish have information you might not find reported elsewhere. Despite the changes in our world, we hope to present you with what you need to know and give you insight on what makes Prairie State College our community.

This semester, we have a group of members who are just beginning, and I am honored to introduce David Patino-Serrato, our new Lead Reporter/Writer, for this academic year. With their academic background and our newest members, I am sure The Pioneer will flourish with voices and bloom with useful information surrounding our PSC community.

This is your campus, so you have a voice. We would love to hear your ideas and opinions. Don’t hesitate to reach out by filling out this form with questions or anything you would like to see reported on. With each article we publish, we have gathered our evidence from credible sources, done our research for background knowledge, integrated different perspectives from students, faculty, or local community members’ voices to create the best possible article for our readers.

I hope this Fall ‘25 semester has gone off to a great start, and I anticipate to see our newspaper flourish. Once again, welcome to The Pioneer and let’s make this semester the best it can be!

Thank you,

Juana Sanchez Castillo
